What it takes to be an LGBTQ in India ?

September 23, 2018blog2 commentsMansi kalra

Am I not human? Am I not allowed to live my life? Am I not someone god have given life to? Am I a member of LGBTQ?

If not these, then why am I said to be different than others?
Why am I treated in a different way than others?
Why am I called a gay/lesbian/trans/queer?

No one has the answers to it. Indeed, why would anyone answer when they think they are born perfect. Perfect here indicates being born straight. Straight is a person who falls for the opposite gender in our so-called liberal society. We talk about a society which is completely toxic for people like us, people like us who fall for the same sex. Yes, I am a bi/a gay/a lesbian/a transgender/a queer and I am proud to be one.

Our society calls us different. Yes, we are different because we have the guts to accept our sexuality and talk openly about it. We are different because we don’t hide our sexuality like others.
We are called the LGBTQ community. Why are we called a community? Do we have something specific in it? Are we born any different in physical appearance? Do we have a bigger or sharper mind, unlike others? Are we treated in a special way in the society or are we born with a silver spoon in our mouths? The answer to all of it is a ‘No’. Then why are we called a community? Why is there a special community for us, even after knowing that we don’t need it?

We don’t want a specific community or be called as a specific community or different from others. We are a part of the same society where the straight but double minded people are living. We want to be a part of the same community where an animal is given more importance than us, a society where prayers are done for statues but no one gives a damn about us.

I am a queer and I am proud to be one. I know my sexuality and I really hope that our society accepts us as we are. I hope our society accepts our sexuality as well so that we don’t need to remove any part of any specific law or section.
Removing a part of section 377 of the IPC helped us a lot but still, only gays are allowed to make love and get married. We hope that we all, trans/bi’s/lesbians/queers are also treated the same way gays are being treated because we aren’t any different. We will get our freedom the day when we’ll no more need any legalization of any law.
Freedom is our need and no law needs to bound us into a nation that got its freedom back in 1947.
